ABOUT THE SERIES:

Jason Pearson is an oil painter living in Orange County.
Jason and his wife, Melinda (and their 5 kids including triplets) were confimred
into the Catholic Church in 2014. After sharing his social justice themed art with Fr. Robert
Badillo (from Our Lady of Solace-St. Dominic in the Bronx) - he recommended that Pearson create
a painting series that expressed this new faith journey.

Pearson has completed an oil series of 8 paintings based on themes for the "Extraordinary Jubliee Year of
Mercy." and which will be shown in 2016. Each painting is an original oil painting done in black and white on canvas.
The surrealistic portraits are oversized and each incorporates a single iconic image to share a story.

BIO:

Pearson doesn't create pretty pictures. These are not colorful portraits. Jason Pearson is a California
artist who has something to say. Pearson has created art for many notables including David Bowie, Trent
Reznor, Mel Gibson, Gil Scott-Heron and Aphex Twin. In the fashion industry, his design has involved
work with Cosmopolitan magazine, Levi Strauss, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein.

Pearson is the co-founder of Blender Magazine which was acquired by Felix Dennis. Jason has received
numerous artistic awards and his work has been published in more than 30 books. New York Magazine
recognized Pearson as one of their "digital visionaries." He was also named to the Samsung Brain Trust.
With paintings shown in Chicago, Los Angles, Paris, and Dubai, Pearson's work is also featured in the
permanent collections of the Smithsonian and Victoria and Albert Museum.

Pearson works actively
with strategic NGOs on human rights and poverty issues—providing poignant inspiration for his work.
Pearson also creates art for many Hollywood faith and family films including; The Passion of the Christ,
Narnia, Son of God, Captive and Ben-Hur.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

While living in New York City, Pearson created album art and then editorial fashion and music magazine
visuals—all powerfully represented in his art. Over the last five years however, he has worked on campaigns
and documentaries addressing the global issues of modern slavery, aids + orphan epidemics,
hunger and human rights. Now living in Southern California, Pearson finds himself strangely interconnected
to the urgent crises of the outside world, yet encased in a bubble of comfort and luxury.

Here is the irony! Pearson lives next door to "the happiest place on earth" while articulating stories of
the saddest places on earth. This uncomfortable dichotomy gives voice to art that spotlights the allurement
of beauty—although photoshopped and artificial—while concurrently broadcasting an uneasy
distortion of the uncanny valley.

In each piece there is something wrong. Pearson's series in oil, "The Problem With the World Is Me," is
based on G.K. Chesterton's authentic confession when The Times of London asked noted authors and
thinkers to answer the weighty question, "What's wrong with the world?" His fork-in-the-road response:
"Dear Sirs, I am." G.K. Chesterton

It is because the artist realizes that he has put his own comfort above the survival of others, that
the viewer can also enter into these issues with some hope and not condemnation.
